The DNS Firewall Page

Introduction

Partners: this page is only accessible when the Organization Selector is set to a specific client view.

This page won’t display data until the DNS Firewall is enabled.

The DNS Firewall page is a dashboard available to clients leveraging our DNS Firewall. This page is available to view by all users in an organization with access to the Field Effect MDR Portal, but only admins can make changes to the custom blocklist, custom allowlist, and categories. See our chapter on the DNS Firewall to learn more about enabling and customizing it.

The DNS Firewall page is made up of four sections:

  1. Status and Time Range: shows DNS Firewall’s status and contains a date range tool for the page.
  2. Summary: graphs for all DNS requests, content blocks, and security blocks.
  3. Top Blocked Request Categories: a chart organizing blocked requests by category.
  4. Blocked domains: lists all domains blocked by the DNS Firewall, grouped by security or content related blocks.

Status & Time Range

At the top of the page, you can see the status of the DNS Firewall (disabled = gray, enabled = green, disconnected = red). There’s also a toggle to set the page to display a 24-hour, 7 Day, or 1 Month range.

Timeline & Summary

Graphs showing the total number of requests, requests that were blocked based on content, and request blocked based on security concerns. Hovering over a data point will show the exact value.

Top Blocked Categories

The top blocked categories are organized by category in a stacked horizontal graph.

Blocked Domains

The Blocked Domains section can be toggled between a Security Blocks and Content Blocks views. Each section has the following details:

  1. Domain: the domain that the DNS Firewall blocked.
  2. Category: The domain’s content category.
  3. Network: The network that the block event happened on.
  4. Last Requested: The last time the domain was requested.
  5. Count: The number of times the domain was blocked.
